TIA Committee Update
TIA’s committees had a strong start to the year. With a growing number of threats to our industry, and both an election and surface transportation reauthorization on the horizon, it’s more important than ever for members and TIA’s committees to make progress on these critical issues.
Here are some of the highlights:
In-House Legal Committee
Chaired by Heather Devine
In March, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC, a case that will have major implications for our industry. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of the committee’s amicus brief subcommittee, TIA filed a brief in support of our industry. Justice Kavanaugh even cited our brief during his line of questioning.
Highway Logistics Committee
Chaired by Kenny Lund
The Highway Committee tackled a range of topics, including Dalilah’s Law and issues related to English-language proficiency and non-domiciled CDLs. Members also provided real-time feedback on legislation such as the SAFER Transport Act, which was influenced by TIA’s advocacy—particularly regarding illegal foreign dispatch services.
Policy Committee
Chaired by Lin Gravley
In Q1, FMCSA Director of the Office of Registration, Kenneth Riddle, joined the Policy Committee to discuss upcoming changes to MODUS and how brokers can prepare for new identity verification requirements. The committee also reviewed strategies for ongoing outreach to the administration.
PAC Board
Chaired by Ken Clark
The PAC Board met to discuss how TIAPAC can ensure our industry’s voice cuts through the noise in D.C. amid a highly competitive midterm election cycle. To learn more about TIAPAC, visit tianet.org/PAC.
