TIA Applauds President Biden Signing C-TPAT Pilot Program Act into Law
[Alexandria, Va., Oct. 2, 2024] — The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) released the following statement from President & CEO Anne Reinke regarding the passage of S. 794, “the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) Pilot Program Act” into law.
“TIA commends President Biden for signing S. 794, “the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) Pilot Program Act” into law. This important legislation expands the scope of C-TPAT eligibility to include third-party logistics providers (3PLs) licensed by the Department of Transportation, a key sector previously excluded from participation.
“For years, TIA members and other 3PLs faced competitive disadvantages in cross-border trade because of their exclusion from the C-TPAT program. The inclusion and pilot program of 3PLs under this new law represents a major step forward for the industry, enhancing both the security and efficiency of the global supply chain, while addressing a major segment of the industry left out of the voluntary program.
“TIA looks forward to working with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to ensure the successful implementation of this program, benefiting both the logistics industry and the broader trade community.”/
