Threats to the Supply Chain: Combating Rising Crime Across Rail, Road and Retail
The US domestic supply chain is increasingly vulnerable to sophisticated fraud schemes. Recent findings from the TIA Fraud Report Survey highlight the scale of the threat, the significant financial toll on businesses and the critical actions the industry must take to protect itself. However, broker fraud is not an isolated issue – it has evolved into an epidemic that affects the entire supply chain.
To address this growing problem, TIA has partnered with other industry leaders to raise awareness and advocate for a coordinated federal response. This collaboration, known as the “Supply Chain Working Group,” is focused on securing the resources and funding needed for a national solution. Together, our stakeholders are developing, analyzing, and advising on policies to combat fraud in the supply chain.

On Dec. 18, we will join business leaders, members of Congress and key Congressional staff at the inaugural U.S. Chamber of Commerce Congressional Roundtable, titled “Threats to Supply Chains: Combating Rising Crime Across Rail, Road and Retail.”
Panel discussions will cover the following topics:
- Policy Discussion: Crafting policies that balance industry needs, consumer interests and societal concerns.
- Impact on Goods in the Supply Chain: Understanding market dynamics and the ripple effects of fraud.
- Rail, Road and Retail Impact: Identifying current and potential risks to critical infrastructure.
- Law Enforcement Strategies, Community and Industry Action: Exploring partnerships with the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and technological advancements in fraud prevention.
A special thanks to Michael Grace, senior director of Customer Risk Mitigation at Highway, for representing the industry and strengthening our ongoing partnership to fight fraud. Through this collaboration, we are equipping freight brokers with the most reliable technology in the industry for carrier verification and fraud prevention. This ensures that only authorized carriers handle loads, creating a secure and trusted network that exceeds business requirements, enhances efficiency and fosters trust between carriers and brokers.
The Supply Chain Working Group will continue to focus on developing, refining and evaluating policies that support the growth, innovation, regulation and sustainability of the entire supply chain industry.
