The Year Ahead: What to Expect From TIA in 2025

TIA is taking on fraud and creating more membership opportunities than ever before

Share

It’s going to be a big year for TIA. With new President & CEO Chris Burroughs at the helm, TIA will be tackling members’ biggest challenges at both the state and regional levels and working to provide an even better membership experience. (See his President’s Column to learn more).

In addition to a new CEO, we will also see a leadership change for our Board of Directors during the Capital Ideas Conference in San Antonio from April 9–12.

Along with these leadership changes, what else can TIA members expect in 2025? BIG THINGS!

The Fight Against Fraud

The year 2024 may go down as the Year of Fraud. While we have been talking about fraud for years, it seems the problem hit its stride last year, costing the industry nearly $1 billion in lost goods. When we say $1 billion, that is the actual cost of lost loads. The number does not take into consideration the hit to your reputation and future lost revenue, the cost to remanufacture and ship items if they are never recovered or the cost that trickles down to the consumer. Needless to say, we are an industry under siege.

Last year, TIA released its latest Framework to Combat Fraud, as well as our inaugural State of Fraud in the Industry report. Because TIA considers fraud to be the No. 1 threat to our members and industry, this year, we are launching a massive reputation management PR campaign to bring the issue to the forefront and alert authorities that it can no longer be ignored. The campaign will also reassure our industry partners that by working with a TIA broker, we are doing everything in our power to transport their product quickly, efficiently and safely. Additionally, TIA will continue to advocate with Congress and federal agencies to find a solution to this problem.

Fraud will never truly go away, but by working together in educating the public, government entities and authorities, we can make it harder for those bad actors to commit identity or cargo theft under our watch.

How can you help? Tell your story.

We are looking for members who are willing to share their fraud story with their local media. It is only when we bring this problem into the light of day that we can begin to combat it.

Another way you can help is by filling out TIA’s fraud survey. If you are interested in participating in the survey, contact Cindy Amos at amos@tianet.org.

A Better Member Experience

TIA appreciates that you value your membership, and we want to keep it that way. That is why in 2025, we are taking the membership experience up a notch.

We have redesigned and redeveloped the TIA member website to help you navigate your member benefits with ease, including our 12 free member-benefit courses that the TIA Institute for Research & Education (TIAIRE) is now offering. Those courses include:

  • Finance 101
  • Independent Contractor 101
  • Ethics in Transportation
  • Truckers Against Trafficking
  • Fraud in the Supply Chain
  • Temp Control Transport 101
  • Less-than-Truckload 101
  • Drayage 101
  • Intermodal 101
  • Intermodal 201
  • Technology 101
  • Insurance 101

These courses can help members save more than $5,000 per employee on continuing education costs.

In addition to these complimentary member-benefit courses, TIAIRE is adding several new options to its catalog, including a Certified Transportation Marketing Professional course and a Certified Transportation Sales Professional course. Other new courses include the Small Broker Coaching course and monthly “speed courses,” which are two-week courses that help members master specific topics that affect their businesses.

We have also developed an updated news website (news.tianet.org) that includes a wealth of educational programming to help your business grow in this competitive landscape, including 3PL Perspectives magazine, news releases, blogs and easy-to-access information on TIA advocacy and meetings.

THESE COURSES CAN HELP MEMBERS SAVE MORE THAN $5,000 PER
EMPLOYEE ON CONTINUING EDUCATION COSTS.

TIA’s Meetings & Education Department is also expanding learning opportunities for the industry by adding more pre- and post-conference seminars, including the new Sales Success Summit, set for April 12, after the Capital Ideas Conference.

The 2025 Sales Success Summit will be a full-day seminar designed to equip you and your team with cutting-edge sales strategies to thrive in today’s rapidly changing marketplace. Led by industry experts, this event will provide actionable tools to enhance sales performance, streamline operations and foster long-lasting customer relationships. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain insights that will give your team a competitive edge and drive business growth.

Be on the lookout for more regional gatherings in 2025, as well. Come and meet with industry colleagues and TIA staff in your area to discuss important industry issues and participate in education sessions.

We are looking forward to another exciting year working for our members. Whether that’s on Capitol Hill and within government agencies or by developing new meetings, programming and education to help you meet your business objectives, TIA is proud to continue creating opportunities for you to meet, network and build relationships with supply chain colleagues around the country.
