Strengthening America’s Infrastructure: Agreement on 2024 WRDA

Share

House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Chairman Sam Graves (R-6th/Mo.), T&I Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-2nd/Wash.), Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.), and EPW Ranking Member Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) have announced a final agreement on the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA).

WRDA is a critical biennial piece of legislation that authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to advance projects aimed at enhancing the nation’s ports and harbors, improving inland waterway navigation, boosting flood and storm protection and strengthening other vital elements of our water infrastructure. These projects, which are driven by local needs, not only support regional communities but also have far-reaching national impacts. They help enhance global competitiveness, improve supply chains, grow the economy and protect communities from flooding.

TIA remains committed to advocating for legislation that promotes shipping efficiency, cost savings and a more resilient transportation network to enhance trade capacity.

The successful passage of WRDA marks the culmination of months of negotiations to align the House and Senate versions of the bill. This achievement highlights the commitment of leaders from both parties to improve the nation’s infrastructure.

Although WRDA primarily focuses on water resources, TIA remains committed to advocating for legislation that promotes shipping efficiency, cost savings and a more resilient transportation network to enhance trade capacity. This marks the sixth consecutive Congress since 2014 to consider a WRDA bill, reflecting the continued importance of strengthening America’s infrastructure for the years to come.
