Adrienne Camire Appointed Acting FMCSA Administrator: TIA’s Focus on Safety, Fraud Prevention, and Industry Collaboration

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced the Presidential appointment of Adrienne Camire as Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). In this role, Ms. Camire will lead FMCSA’s efforts to improve commercial motor vehicle safety, enhance the efficiency of the nation’s freight and passenger transportation systems, and restore common-sense principles to regulatory oversight.
Ms. Camire brings extensive experience in legal, regulatory, and transportation policy, positioning her well to oversee FMCSA’s mission of enhancing commercial motor vehicle safety. Prior to her appointment, she served as Chief Counsel for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) during President Trump’s first term. With over two decades of experience in both the private and public sectors—especially in regulatory affairs and compliance—Ms. Camire has demonstrated a deep understanding of transportation law and policy.
Why This Matters to TIA Members:
The FMCSA is tasked with ensuring the safety of commercial vehicles, regulating brokers and identifying fraudulent carriers operating in the supply chain.
- Broker Intrusion: TIA will work with the new Acting Administrator to withdraw the Biden Administration’s NPRM on so called “broker transparency”. The proposed rule helps no sector of the supply chain while harming small businesses, cutting jobs and driving up consumer costs. - Fraud Prevention & Enforcement: TIA remains committed to working with FMCSA and policymakers to combat cargo theft and strategic fraud in the freight market. FMCSA has a critical role in investigations and enforcement and we are supporting H.R. 880 and S. 337 to reauthorize civil penalties against fraudulent businesses and other necessary investigative tools. Tell your congressional delegation to support this important legislation!
- Other Areas of Focus: TIA is a strong supporter of amending FMCSA’s safety rating system to enhance traditional carrier inspections with digital audits to establish an ongoing safety fitness determination. We also support creating a motor carrier safety selection standard for brokers that will help make our highways safer for the traveling public. Finally, we hope to work with FMCSA to implement broker education and training requirements that were enacted as part of MAP-21.
TIA looks forward to collaborating with Acting Administrator Camire and FMCSA leadership to advance policies that strengthen safety, prevent fraud, and promote a more efficient and resilient freight transportation system.
